Are you planning to recycle your yearly tapes before the year is up? If so,
you need to be careful about how you do this, if you get it wrong then your
clone tapes will also become recyclable. The reason is that the flag in the
media database that defines whether a save set is recyclable applies to all
clones of the save set. If you set the original volume to recyclable it will
set all save sets (and all clones of them) on the volume to recyclable, and
that is probably not what you want to happen. You can avoid this happening
by removing all the save sets on the original. There are two ways to do this:
(1) By removing or manually recycling the whole volume
(2) By removing all the save sets on the volume before you set it to
recyclable. This can be done with the nsrmm command to delete just the
correct save set id/clone id combination. An example command would be: nsrmm
-d -y -S ssidnumber/cloneidnumber. A simple script would run mminfo to
produce a list of ssids and cloneids on the original volume, then use these
values for the nsrmm -d command above.

Doing this will save you hours of effort by not running scanner - a task to
be avoided wherever possible.
