Joel,

Installing the latest st patch should do it...

You can also check how st as detected the drive by issuing a `mt -f <rmt_device>
status` ...a fter you have loaded atape in the drive of course.... You can then
compare the output to the one given by `/etc/LGTOuscsi/inquire -c` for
example... If they do not match, st as not recognize the drive correctly.

| Check your st.conf file, it most likly has no config for the 9840 drives.
| You shoudl be able to get htis from the STK web site. Also I think that the
| STK NT driver should run at 256K. Label a tape on Unix, write some data,
| then mount it with NT machine and scan the tape, if you get no errors you
| are good to go.

| We just purchased a STK Silo with 9940B drives, and when I label a tape
| I get the below messages.

| This was a brand new tape. Is the block size after labeling now 256K or
| 80bytes? Since it's been labeled will positioning by record be enabled?
| When I relabel the tape I don't get the block size message, but I'm not
| sure what size blocks the tape is currently using.
| These drives will be used for DDS with a WIN2K system so I need to set a
| block size. Any suggestion for the best block size for compatibility
| and performance? I haven't been able to find much info on WIN2K max
| block size, so if anyone knows where I can find that type of data I
| would appreciate it.
| I see similar questions answered in the archives, but I was wondering if
| anyone had any more detail.
| TIA,
