Hi all,

I'm at the point of playing around (yes, no social life...) with Oracle
9i and the Oracle application module v3.5 for Linux.

In all my previous interractions with NetWorker+Oracle (8i) I've used a
recovery catalog and never encountered the error I'm now getting. I get
full connectivity as the rman user to the target database and get to do
a full backup.

However, if I backup anything database related (data files and/or
archive logs) at the end of the backup it bombs out with:

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00579: the following error occurred at 01/28/2003 07:47:05
RMAN-03006: non-retryable error occurred during execution of command: backup
RMAN-12004: unhandled exception during command execution on channel t1
RMAN-10032: unhandled exception during execution of job step 1:
ORA-19583: conversation terminated due to error
ORA-27206: requested file not found in media management catalog
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_BACKUP_RESTORE", line 625
ORA-06512: at line 283

What's weird is that even running with debug mode I can't see what the
problem is. I thought for a while it might have been something like
trying to backup an archived redo log that hadn't actually been archived
yet but restricting the arch'd logs to a known set on disk didn't help,
and then I noticed the problem would happen when just backing up the
database files as well.

OBTW, Oracle 9.0.1.0 - yes I know there's release 2 available but I
don't have that to play with before doing the customer install next week :)

I've had a good poke around on the knowledgebase but it all seems to
point at known problems in the NetWorker 6.0.x NetWorker tree, which I'm
not using.

So what I'm wondering is whether I'm getting this sort of problem due to
not using a recovery catalog or whether it's a 9i feature...

I just thought I'd pose the question to the list before having a chat
with Legato about it...

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

-Preston de Guise
