Hi there again

I have good news on the Overland Storage (a.k.a. Overland Data)
LibraryXpress.
The same query I submitted on the list, I sent to my backup supplier,
and barely a week later, they came back with good news on Linux
compatibility. An extract of this message (reproduced below) illustrates
some of the vendor reasoning behind certifying a library. Also, vendors
have to rely on customer input/feedback with regards to Linux
certification, so contact your vendor. Certification of your preferred
library might be closer than you think. Thanks also to Hrvoje from
Denmark who let me know that he was successfully able to use this
library with a variety of Linux distro's.

Chances are good this configuration (RH 7.x, NW6.x, LoaderXpress) might
appear on the HW certification guide soon.

greetings
Riaan

I have discussed this issue with [name witheld], a technical support
specialist
at Overland Data in the U.K.

He confirmed that the compatibility of a specific tape library
configuration
may be treated as 2 separate compatibility issues, namely the
compatibility
of the library robotic arm, and the compatibility of the library tape
drives.

While we have been aware of this possibility, we have not specifically
made
use of it to date.

In this case, the following is required :-

1) Compatibility of the Loader Xpress robotic arm with NetWorker 6.x
under
RedHat Linux 7.x

2) Compatibility of DLT8000 tape drives with NetWorker 6.x under
RedHat
Linux 7.x

1) Robotic Arm
The Loader Xpress robotic arm has been certified by both Legato and
Overland
Data with NetWorker 6.x on RedHat Linux 6.2 but not 7.x (with AIT
drives)

However, [name withheld] has confirmed that the robotic arm of the
PowerLoader
is identical to that of the Loader Xpress.

The PowerLoader has been certified by both Legato and Overland Data
with
NetWorker 6.x on RedHat Linux 7.1 (with SDLT200 drives)

The compatibility 1) of the robotic arm is thus confirmed.

2) DLT8000 tape drive
Both Legato and Overland Data have coonfirmed that the DLT8000 tape
drives
are compatible with NetWorker 6.x on RedHat Linux 7.1

Thus both conditions for compatibility have been met.

With this and the assurance from Overland Data that they will also
supply
support on techical issues related to compatibility, Source Consulting
is
prepared to endorse and support the proposed configuration.
