George,

The client file index is updated as the files are backed up. The client
sends file records to the server, which writes them to the index.

After a scheduled backup completes for a client, then the client index is
backed up.

When NetWorker is backing up one or more save sets from a given client,
is the client's index on the server actually getting updated
simultaneously, or does NetWorker somehow do this later? I know it
writes the index out to tape at the same level following the completion
of all savesets for the client, but I've always been curious about how
it updates the information in the online index while it's also writing
datato tape.

Thanks.

George
