Thomas,

My environment is basically like yours and I too had the
Same problems with the Legato/Lib Station interface.

In addition to the libstlstk.sl binary, I am using
The 6.0 version of ssi and mini_el as well.

If you have never added tapes previously, you might
Want to make sure the Libstation parameters allow the
Format of the label you are using. Sorry, but I forget
The exact parameter name/entry at the moment.

Subject: [Networker] "Add library volumes" in an STK9310 Silo doesn't work

Hello!

This is my first posting to this Networker forum.
I have had an case for over 1 year with Legato and still doesn't
got any solution for my problem.
I was hoping that someone on this list might have seen this before and
maybe have an solution or workaround.

My environment is:

Backup Server:      HP-UX B.11.00
Model:              L1000 (dual 440Mhz cpu's)
Memory:             1GB
Networker version:  6.1.3.Build.428
Clients:            appx. 120 HP-UX,AIX,Linux,Windows
Jukebox: STK9310 (powderhorn) with 5600 slots.
                    Shared between our Mainframe IBM OS/390 and HPUX NW-
                    server. (400 slots for UNIX)
ASCLS software: Library Station running on our Mainframe
SAN:                Inrange FC9000/16
FC HBA:             HP A5158A

Problem:

Can't use the Media-->Add library volume button in nwadmin to update
Networker about which tapes are entered in the Silo.
Always then doing this task I got an error message "Add operation failed on
signal(11)" and a core file is created in /nsr/cores/nsrjb.
Also then doing the same operation but directly with nsrjb gives the same
error:

root@chuck:/ # nsrjb -j STK9310 -a -T 500183
nsrjb: Jukebox error: Fri 15:15:43 Add operation failed on signal(11)

At the same time where are also some error in the ssi log:

01-10-03 15:15:40 SSI[0]:
[gp11.sap.sca.se/50004] ONC RPC: csi_xqu_response():
status:STATUS_COUNT_TOO_LARGE;
XDR message translation failure;

01-10-03 15:15:42 SSI[0]:
[gp11.sap.sca.se/50004] ONC RPC: csi_xv4_res():
status:STATUS_TRANSLATION_FAILURE; failed: csi_xqu_response()
XDR message translation failure;

If I remember right the problem has existed since I upgraded from
Networker 6.0.2. All later versions seem to give me this problem.
Another problem I have had prior to 6.1.3 was that I couldn't even
mount/unmount volumes but I found a workaround there I used the
/opt/networker/lib/libstlstk.sl file for version 6.0.2 together with
some of the later versions like 6.1, 6.1.1 or 6.1.2. That solved the
mount/unmount problem but still I haven't been able to "Add library volumes"
in any version after 6.0.2.

Stay at version 6.0.2 is not an option since I want to setup DDS
with a SAN storage node for my biggest SAP/Oracle database (525GB in size).
Due to my problem I haven't configured DDS yet since I will have to
manually update the nsrjb.res file with all 400 tape volumes after running
jb_config to reconfigure the Silo for DDS.
I'm also afraid I might run into other problems then running jb_config since
it has to communicate with the mainframe and the ASCLS software.

Sorry for my long story but I wanted to give you as much input as I
thought you need.

Best Regards, Thomas
