For duplicating, both hardware and software,
You might want to check out Ultera, <ultera.com>.
We have used their controllers for years for hardware
Mirroring.

In addition StorageTek has a switch the SN6000 which will
Provide mirroring as well.

I may be mistaklen, but I heard that Legato is not too convinced that
"mirroring" or "duplexing" is the right approach true data protection. I
heard various arguments for and against. However, the current cloning
process does give you that read verification test and un-multiplex copy
which you do not get with a "mirrored" copy. I understand that version 7
does not have the "mirror" capability in the initial release.

Kenneth,

Veritas Netbackup has the same functionnality... it is called duplication...
look at the man page of bpduplicate. Netbackup allows also to keep
multiplexing
when duplicating.

Also you can modify the expiration of the duplicates.

| Ofcause we're interested, at least if u can get a status on your request.
| It's not likely we'll ever hear from legato, but theres always a chance.
|
| How do u guys handle the situation today ? keep the clones and originals
| until they expire ? handle it manually ?
|
| Does veritas have this functionality, that sounds interesting as I am
about
| to get a copy I can test vs legato.
