Hi,
I haven't seen a response to this, so let me fill the gap.

Check with mminfo what is on the tapes that gets a retention time of three
years. My bet is that it's the indexes of the clients. If that's so, here's
why they get such a long retention time and what can be done about it.
use mminfo -q 'volume=volumename' -r 'name, ssexpire'
Check if the backup server is part of the group that get's a retention time
of 3 years. If the backup server ( who owns the indexes of the clients ) is
not in the group and hence has no retentiontime specified, Legato Networker
has to decide on a retention time and picks the longest possible ( paranoid
mode ).
There are several solutions:

1 set the group not to create Indexes and make backup's of the indexes in a
different group that only handles indexes ( howto can be found in the
archives of this group )
2 Add the server to the group. Give it a schedule to always skip, if you
don't want it to write anything to tape.
This will give networker a retention time for the indexes

Regards,
Dirk Verhoeff
