Hi Phil nice to hear from you, I hope you managed to have a good new year
and Christmas.

Okay lets see if I can shed some light on things for you.
6.13 is that for the storage node and the server or one and the other?
(saying that I think 6.13 is just for 2000 isn't it?)
Besides I heard that 6.13 was full o bugs again!

The idea is that we will use the storage node to backup the bulk of the SAN
enviroments but for testing we will use the storage node to do all the
backups and nothing but control data will be passed between the 2k server
and the Unix storage node. So no autochanger will be connected to the win2k
server at the moment.

There will be 150GB of disk space on the 2k server so Indexes shouldn't be
an issue for the indexes and besides our unorthadox DR method will still
work this way too.

I suppose then really the types of data will be a mixture, all NT file
structures but with some SQL and some exchange modules as well.

Sorry thats about it really.

Thanks again Phil.

Dan

Hi, Dan,
I saw your post and thought I'd put my 2p-worth in.
First of all, go for Networker 6.13 -it's proving much better -we'll be
sending out general advice soon.
Also, a dual CPU server will give improved performance. The Sun machine
sounds absolutely fine for what you want to do. Are you planning on having
an autochanger on the server? Don't forget you need somewhere to put your
indexes. Fine tuning requires knowing more about the type of data you're
moving around, so you can adjust parallelism etc.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Cheers, Phil

Hi Fellow Networkers.

We are currently undertaking a avenue in our infrastructure which has to
date been Historically Win2k / NT and networker.

However we are about to start testing an win2k / Networker 6.1.2 server but
with a Unix Storage node to attempt to increase stability and performance.

Our proposed set-up is a Single CPU 512mb RAM Legato Master server running
win2k sp3 with networker 6.12 with a Sun Enterprise 250 dual processor unit
with 1gb RAM running Solaris 2.8, this in turn will be connected up to a
twin SDLT compaq autochanger, the network is standard fast (switched)
Ethernet network infrastructure.

Can anyone provide any details about fine tuning of the environment to
maximise the stability and performance.

Your help is much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Dan
