Thanks you Teresa...

The problem was that I was trying to clone stuff that already had 2 copies
(which mean it was already cloned). Forcing mminfo to only return full
volumes with 1 copy (using mminfo query) solved the problem.

Thanks for the help

Chris

Hey,
I got that error last week and again this weekend. Server NT4 SP6a
NW 6.1.2 trying to stage from disk (file device) to a clone tape. Each
time it complained about being ineligible it suggested relabelling an
expired tape.

So, each time it suggested a tape, I deleted that tape until there
were no more expired volumes in the pool. Networker then used one of the
other volumes in the jukebox.

At the time I put it down to the order in which Networker selects
the next appropriate volume (I've changed my mind on this theory).

I've got round it by moving the client to a different Networker and
removing the need to save it to disk in the first place.

Not exactly a fix, I know. But I just thought I'd reply to let you
know you're not alone with this problem.

One thought did occur to me, as these tapes get recycled pretty
often, they may have exceeded some threshold and become ineligible that
way.

Regards
Bob

All:

If anyone has seen this problem or knows of a solution I would love to
hear it. I am using Solstice Backup 5.5.4 build 333 on Solaris 8 and this
weekend I started to have problems with normal cloning.

Background:

Every month we run fulls and then using mminfo I grab a list of the
completed full saveset ID's and output them into a file named SSIDLIST. I
then pass that to nsrclone -v -b 'GroupName Clone' -S -f $SSIDLIST and the
clones start.

The problem is that this month clones started for a machine prior to the
backup being completed so it cloned only the savesets that were completed
already. Since things got all backed up, I kill some clone jobs that were
waiting and restarted the Networker server. I then tried to run clones
for a group X. Group X uses tapes named X.clone.### and a volume report
shows three tapes append but Networker insists on using tapes that are
not in the jukebox. The jukebox contains the following tapes for that
group

x.clone.005 16G written appen
x.clone.006 0 appen
x.clone.019 0 appen

When the clone job starts it load the read tape in one jukebox but
suggests loading x.clone.018 to write to. I manually mount a tape from
the above list and get the error "media notice: Volume `x.clone.005'
ineligible for this operation; Need a different volume from pool `x Full
Clone'". The output of daemon.log is below. Any help to reconcile this
problem would be appreciated. Read tape is in /dev/rmt/4cbn and write
tape is in /dev/rmt/1cbn.
