Gary,
Regarding the first issue you raised, if I correctly remember the
SonicWall has a connection/port inactivity timeout that can be adjusted.

I don not remember its exact name but after I raised it to its maximal
value (999?) backups stopped hanging.

The problem is limited (apparently) to clients behind
four firewalls I recently deployed. Although it doesn't
happen every time, and to every client behind them. And
some of the clients have never had the problem. But it does happen to
both images (taken Sundays) and incrementals (rest of week).

The third-level tech at Legato tried, but reported that he got no useful
information from Microsoft. (Not a big surprise there.)  -Gary
