Hi

Please see the EMC Engineering White Paper, "EMC TimeFinder Integration for
Microsoft SQL Server 2000: Using TimeFinder to Build a Highly Available
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Server Environment"
(http://www.emc.com/pdf/techlib/TF_SRDF_MSsql_server.pdf) for details of
this integration. SQL Server 2000 does not need to be stopped, which
obviously yields a much better application availability story. Plus, it
facilitates rapid restore.

Here's a pointer to the analogous document for Microsoft Exchange Server:
http://www.emc.com/pdf/products/timefinder/timefinder_integr_msexch2000.pdf.

Hope this helps!

The way this whole thing could/should work from my past experience is the
following.

1. Stop SQL Server
2. Run the Timefinder script that creates the BCVs
3. Restart SQL server
4. Mount the BCVs as windows drives
5. Backup the data you want from the BCV drives (full/incremental/diff) 6.
Run a script that will unmount the BCV drives and restore them to their
original function
