I'm not knocking Seagate drives, they do work a treat with compatible media.
However I have seen serious problems when using them with 3 different brands
of tape (which I am not going to list here). Seagate's website recommends
primarily Seagate tapes (not surprisingly) and secondarily two other brands,
M***ll and F**i. STK will also give you these two brands as a
recommendation, but you may need to dig a little to find this out. I am not
surprised if the reseller did not not know about this.

IBM drives seem to be more tolerant and indeed I have seen them work
faultlessly with the same tapes that previously gave errors on Seagate
drives. I have no experience of HP drives.
