I have always taken that R symbol to mean something else other than READ
only when it was combined with the RECYC.

Jim,
There might be 4 different cases that tapes marked as recyclable will
not recycle:
1. Jukebox is not in auto media management mode.
2. Recyclable tape belongs to other pools that will not allow recycle
to/from other pools. Note that by default pool Default will not accept
tapes from other pools.
3. The recyclable tapes are marked as manually only recyclable.
4. Networker not properly synchronized/inventoried with the real
hardware.
In any other case that might be a bug.
As you say that you currently have release 6.0, I would first upgrade to
the current Legato Networker server level (6.1.3)
Regards,
        Itzik

Hi, All

I keep getting a situation where Networker hangs up waiting for a
writeable volume. when I look at the listing of volumes in the GUI I see
a bunch of tapes at are marked recyclable but they also show in the
volume serial field as NNNNNN(R) where the "(R)" apparently means
read-only. is it just me or does this combination not make any sense. I
certainly don't get it. to get things moving again I have to re-label
the tape with "nsrjb -L -Sxxx -b "Default" NNNNNN". after that I can
mount the tape and things start moving again. can somebody please
explain to me what I'm doing wrong here. I have Networker 6.0 on AIX
4.3.3 with an STK 9710 library. TIA
