I've seen 15MB/sec+ with 9840 drives coming from NT4/Exch 5.5
with a single backup stream. It appeared to be limited by the
tape drives. This was going across GigE via storage nodes
to fibre attached devices on HP/UX servers.

On DLT7000's, I've seen ~7MB/sec as the average assuming
good network connectivity / local devices. Again this
is with a single store streaming data. With more than
one server sending, the speed did not increase.

Also, the readme in one of the Exchange 5.5 service packs
that mentioned that the 35MB/sec backup limit had been overcome,
so it would appear that Exchange is capable of pushing data
as fast as the infrastructure can handle it.

What are the specs on your servers, I/O channels, SAN,...etc?
What kind of load is the Exchange box under when the backups
are running? The NetWorker server?

same here .. san attached, i.e., using emulex 8000 hba .. we're migrating to
exchange 2000 and was thinking we should at least get 10. We're moving to
having more storage groups though so that we can have more than one stream.
In exchange 2000 you can backup more than one storage group, but not more
than one database within a storage group.

I get about 6 mb/s with DLT7000 SAN attached drives. That is per
drive/stream. I usually get 4 streams at a time (one for each storage
group).

can someone tell me what throughput rates they're getting when backing up
MSEXCH:
we're using scalar 1000 with LTO drives and are only seeing 4-6MB/s
