Hi Chad,
When Oracle creates a data file it zeros each block. I think this policy is so
that sparse or "holey" files are not created and there are no disk spaces
suprises later on.

Are any of the recovered files comprehensively "sparse"? If so, perhaps
the recover is busy writing nulls into the space formerly not used.
