Hi All,

Its been a while since I posted this problem but I thought I would send a follow up anyway as to how it was finally fixed.

After much testing of drives and checking of daemon.log I found that a corresponding error

"nsrmmd #10: Diagnostic: failed to create shared memory: No space left on device"

was being written to the daemon.log on the storage-node that was handling the backup. A subsequent restore from this location resulted in the error

"nsrd: media info: Not enough space"

being written in the daemon.log on the server. So with this additional information I used the "ipcs -ma" command to find out what was using the shared memory. There were quite a few old Oracle processes. Used the "ipcrm" command to cleanup the old processes hoping this would fix the problem. However it still persisted until a re-boot of the system. The shared memory error now does not appear in the storage-node dameon.log and backups/restores are fine.

Thanks to all who provided input. Also does anyone know how the shared memeory problem could be fixed without a re-boot?

Thanks Maddie

Hi,

This is a normal problem when you sharing a jukebox between server and
storage node.

What you need to do is to ensure that the server and storage nodes writes to
the tape
drives with the same block size.

This is done by editing the networker start/stop stript:

NSR_DEV_BLOCK_SIZE_MSG=Y
NSR_DEV_BLOCK_SIZE_9840=256
export NSR_DEV_BLOCK_SIZE_MSG NSR_DEV_BLOCK_SIZE_9840

(in this case the tape is STK 9840)

To try to restore the data you have on tape now, either try to restore the
data on the node on which it was saveed, or set the blocksize to a larger
value than you have of the mounted volume.

Then the tape is generally readable, but positioning by record is disabled.

Best Regards

Hi All,

Server: Tru64 UNIX V5.1A. PAtch kit 2
Storage Node: Tru64 UNIX V5.1
                ATL P2000m Tape library
Networker version 6.1.1 on both

My problem is with the P2000. I am getting the following error

"nsrd: media info: Not enough space"

when trying to do a restore. Does anyone have any ideas what this error
message means and how do I fix it? So far it appears to have a problem
reading the label after loading the tape into the drive. The restore will
not continue and I have to cancel out. It also then leaves he jukebox in a
strange state and only shutting down from the server seems to fix it. I
have been able to do a restore only by using one of the other drives in the
library if it is configured as a standalone drive.

Thanks for any help.

Maddie
