It could be a bad idea to have indexes saved to the same pool as the
savesets if you have different retention periods for "Incremental" and
"Full" backups.

Example being if you have an incremental pool with a 100 day retention and a
full pool with a 400 day retention, the way Networker deals with this is to
not expire any tapes until the data has reached the longest retention period
for the client. Therefore, by having the indexes on saved on the same tape
as the savesets themselves means that the incremental tapes won't auto
recycle for 400 days.

I have my indexes saved to a separate "index" tape pool and auto recycling
works as it should now. Until Legato works out the difference between
retention periods on an incremental/full backup rotation and auto tape
recycle, I'm leaving this way and recommend it for those individuals who
don't have the time to manually manage all their tapes.

Very bad idea to put all indexes and Bootstrap into a dedicated pool.
As size of bootstrap and indexes are not so big, if you lose the
last tape, you will lose a lot of data and the last mmdb you
will be able to recover from will be quite old.

I have a similar problem. I would like to save my indexes and my
bootstrap on a
specific pool BCKINDEX. This pool has a saveset restriction. And when I
save my
index with the command "savegrp -O -l full -c client -G INDEX" Networker
is
asking for a tape from the default pool.

If a remove the value in the saveset attributes in the pool definition,
Networker is using this pool to backup my indexes, BUT networker is
using this
pool to backup all my data too.
