Hello Networkers,
HP-UX 11.0
Networker 6.1.1
I am trying to manually clone a tape and it repeatedly fails. I get
numerous 'Media Emergence: Inactive ssid' errors in daemon and message
logs. After several minutes the clone fails. I've run thru this several
times. The whole clone process is giving me trouble as follows:
- select clone volume (via gui or command line). It takes about 20 minutes
before it does anything, meanwhile nsrclone process creeps up to 99% cpu
utilization. eventually source and clone tapes are loaded.
- cloning starts. w/in 1 minute following entries in log files:
09/13/02 10:31:02 nsrd: media info: can not read record 0 of file 2 on 8mm
AIT-2 tape A00007
09/13/02 10:31:03 nsrmmd #1: inactive ssid

09/13/02 10:31:03 nsrd: cloning session:1 of 3066 save set(s) starting read

09/13/02 10:32:41 nsrd: media emergency: inactive ssid
09/13/02 10:32:41 nsrmmd #1: inactive ssid
etc. ad nauseum...
this goes on for about 5 minutes then clone stops. and nothing is cloned.
- when I close the clone window, nsradmin gui core dumps.
- restart nsradmin.
- unmount source volume - ok
- unmount clone volume - can't, error: device busy
- check process list, no clone running (should have done lsof on tape drive)
- restart networker - ok
- unmount clone drive - ok
the tape in question has 120GB on it. I can 'scanner' it ok. I did so
last night. Only unusual message on scanner is at very start of tape but
all save sets are read. Here're the scanner messages:
scanner: NetWorker notice: no tape label found
scanner: scanning for valid records...
scanner: read: 65536 bytes
scanner: read: 65536 bytes
scanner: Found valid record:
scanner: volume id 3054385153
scanner: file number 879
scanner: record number 1
scanner: volume name `A00007'
scanner: scanning 8mm AIT-2 tape A00007 on /dev/rmt/ait2nb
scanner: 8mm AIT-2 tape A00007 already exists in the media index
scanner: unexpected file number, wanted 2 got 881
scanner: ssid 339491073: scan complete
scanner: ssid 339491073: 3905 KB, 49 file(s)
scanner: ssid 339499009: scan complete
scanner: ssid 339499009: 11 MB, 72 file(s)
etc...
Anyone have any advice on this? I've had this happen several times with
exactly the same problems. I may delete the volume, scanner it in and then
see if I can clone it. I have other volumes that will clone fine no
problem.
