I am not quite sure what your question is, but I do understand this much.
1. The Storage Node attribute of the client controls where (which machine)
the data is directed to.
2. The Clone Storage Node attribute controls where this clients data is
cloned to.
3. I don't believe there is any independent control of the data at the
storage node level.  It is all handled at the server and client level.
4. The storage node is treated as a device.  The only control you have is at
the device level (as you surmised).

I havn't tried staging yet (just setting it up now), so I do not know if it
allows automatic cloneing at the end of the staging process.  I do know you
can use NSRCLONE  cmd line to create it if it doesn't.
