Hi Marc,

I'm assuming your using the backint interface with the SAP br* tools.
If you schedule the backup through DB13 it will definitely run on
the DB server, the batch job runs on the DBHOST. This is built into the
ABAP that executes the backup.

You should be able to run the backup from the Networker server (I've never tried
this) if you have:
1) if the $ORACLE_HOME on the NEtworker server (initPRD.sap files here)
2) Can connect to sap (eg sqlplus sapr3/xxxx@PRD)
3) Oracle data files are available on Networker server (/oracle/PRD/sapdata*)
for reading
   by the SAVE command.

What the brbackup does it run a couple of SQL's to put the DB in backup mode
and to list the data files for backup. It then passes the list of data files
(eg /oracle/PRD/sapdata1/btabd_1/btabd.data1 ...) to the backint interface. All
the backint does is execute a SAVE for each data file.

As I've said, I haven't tried this but it may work.

Regards

Doug Phillips

Gents,

I have the following question:

In a HP TRU64 V5.1a environment with Oracle and NetWorker server running on
the same cluster (but served by the different nodes by default):

1.We experience that the brbackup command MUST be started on the
clusternode servicing the Oracle database. Is this normal behaviour ?

2. When the NW server and the Oracle DB are running on different nodes of
the cluster, then the backup is LAN based.

All help highly appreciated
