Hi Deb,

I was a beta tester for NRM and once we got it installed and functioning, it
really turned out to be a nice product. So far I've only tested this on a
Sun system using a GUI interface and haven't been able to make it work on a
standard terminal with no GUI interface, although I'm told that it works.

What's nice about this product is that once you capture the current boot
image and you want to restore to it at a later time, the product will
restore the image and then automatically start up a restore of the files
from tape as well...that was pretty cool.

Another thing that I'm concerned about and am still testing with this
application is how do I do an NRM restore of a system that let's say melts
in a fire and I need to rebuild it. Sine NRM is MAC address dependant how
can I build a system using NRM to mirror that of the one that just got
destroyed. I'm still working on that will figure it out I'm sure...may need
to take the new MAC address and find the file on my NRM server that keeps
track of the MAC addresses for the systems I'm imaging using NRM and replace
the old MAC address with the new one and just hope that it works.

I'm going to be testing this concept shortly. Other than that I think there
are some real good potentials with this product, as far as SUN disaster
recovery are concerned.

Scott

Has anyone heard anything about this Legato product? We need an
imaging/disaster recovery solution for our Win2k Active Directory
Servers. This product is supposed to allow for recovery without
re-installing the base OS, kind of an image style restore.

I would appreciate hearing about your experiences with this
product, if it is viable and useful, whether it's worth purchasing,
or even alternative products.

Thanks,

deb
