We've been using AIT-2 technology for 1.5 years now and for the most
part are pleased with it.
Here are the Pros:
* Small media and tape drive form factor allowing for more slots per
library per square foot.
* Greater number of tape drives per library (ADIC Scalar 1000).
* Reduced on-site storage requirements.
* Fast media positioning.
* Good compression ratio resulting in fast data transfer rates.
* Acceptable reliability.
* Ease of firmware upgrade. Simply load a firmware tape into the drive
and it gets updated.
The Cons:
* Cost per media (approx. $65)
* Unload issues. Sony and ADIC have yet to totally eliminate having to
manually eject media via the library control panel.
