We used the storage array to give a copy of the DB and logs to the new TSM
servers. Our DBs where 100GB - 280GB (4 of them). We went from 5.4 to 6.2.
The 5.4 to 5.5 upgrade took between 7 and 44 minutes. 44 was the odd one out
of 8 runs, less than 10 minutes was the normal run. I practiced the upgrades.
The DB extract ran 1 - 3.5 hours. Less than 2 being the normal time.
5.5 to 6.2 upgrade ran 5 - 10 hours. Very consistent on the size.
We did our upgrades starting Tuesday mornings. I can't mess with the servers
on the weekends and at night. There is no way they would let me mess with them
at year end.
Did you practice the upgrade?

I have done both ways. Put up a 6.1 server new and all new TSM requests went
there. Then came new 6.2 servers and migrated off some 5.5 servers via exports.
Most recently was rebuilding one of the old empty 5.5 machines with more memory
and latest RedHat, restored 5.5 server DB to it, installed 6.3 and upgraded.
