I encourage you to take a look at the User's Guide
and the whitepaper I sent you a link for.
The backups are initiated from the FlashCopy Manager
GUI or CLI interface. The backups are specified by the
database names. FlashCopy Manager will figure out which
volumes need to be snapshot based on the name. For example:
    TDPSQLC BACKUP db1 FULL
If you want to utilize SVC, you will need to make sure
the database files are placed on SVC volumes.

You need to make sure that there are sufficient target volumes
in the VSS_FREE pool that match the exact size of the volumes
that your database file resides on. Please read the whitepaper,
it discusses this.
