Hi All

I've been playing with TSM 6.2.2 recoveries on my Linux X86 sandpit box
and have a couple of questions about the process.

First, when you format the new database with dsmserv format, it gives
a message that the format is done quite quickly but then follows a DB2
offline backup which seems to take quite a while. What does this
offline backup do, and why does it take so long on a brand new empty
DB? Where is the data backed up to?

Second and more importantly, with the old TSM database you could format
the DB and Logs separately. Now the DB Directory the activelog
directory and *the archivelog directory* all have to be empty to format
anything. So in the old TSM database you could put the database on one
device, and the log on another. If the idiot SAN admin :) blew away the
lun with the DB but not the one with the log, and you were in
rollforward mode, you could format a new database, restore from the last
database backup and roll forward the log.

With DB2, in order to format the DB you have to blow away the archive
log. Am I missing something here? or has the simplification of the DB2
interface with TSM effectively removed this ability. The DB2
documentation suggests that the capability is there in DB2.

Regards

Steve.
