This is one of the many times when they say we don't need to be DB2
DBAs, but it would sure make things a lot easier!
   
  The "database directory" is where the database 'identity' or control
information and commands are stored, as identified by the "sqllib"
directory structure that is placed there.  Most people choose the
instance home directory for this.
  It is separate from where the actual database data files are stored.
   
  I had to figure this out when I started seeing errors that the
"database directory" was almost full because of a large DB2 log file,
but yet my TSM database was only 20% utilized.
