I came in the middle of this thread but from the subject line it looks
like someone needs to know how to disable backup/archive activity.  I use
disable session to stop all backup/archive activity and lock node / unlock
node for just a specific machine.

@Richard,

You're right, restore seems still possible, but also backup and
archives to devclass disk, so MAXNUMMP doesn't help.
