Hi Robert,
I'd rather not use the open jre/jdk; I had too many problems with it.
Make sure that you have the "partner" repository enabled, either via the
graphical frontend, or by uncommenting the line
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu lucid partner
in /etc/apt/sources.list. See for example
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu#Adding%20Canonical%20Partner%20Repositories
sun-java6-jdk is not necessary, by the way.
My TSM client is at version 6.1.0.2.
