We had mistakenly installed CDO 1.2.1, rather than CDO MAPI 1.2.1.  Your link 
did the trick.

Now can you tell me if we also need to install the Exchange VSS Integration 
module on 2010?
Do you have a link for that?  (Windows system backup for Exchange with VSS is 
working fine already, so does that mean it's already installed?)

You do not want to install Outlook on your Exchange Server.

Are you installing the following CDO MAPI?

It should not be telling you that you need to install Outlook.
If it is, I recommend that you place a call with Microsoft.
