I actually use it to perform database backups in addition to my tape
based db backups. This allows me to begin recovery immediately when a
problem occurs, versus waiting several hours for our vaulting company to
return the offsite db backup from the vault facility. I have had no
issues with it.

Keep in mind that depending on the database size and number of TSM
servers involved that it could utilize a significant amount of disk/tape
resources.

actually, apart from possible limitations in the network department, I
think this is one of the better solutions. Set up two servers as virtual
volume servers for DR, and use just 2 or 3 tapes daily rather than one
or two per server. Until IBM allows us to store multiple DB backups on a
single volume, this is one of the best ways to make db backups when you
have more than just two or three servers.
