Subject: RE: TSM 6.2
Hello Christian,
I think it will be interesting for you (maybe for somebody else as well) that
TSMExplorer (www.s-iberia.com<http://www.s-iberia.com/>) can collect number of
cores in TSMExplorer Agent 1.3.0.
After installing agent software on node (it takes just a few seconds) you can:
1) connect to agent from TSMExplorer and see detailed host information;
2) build special report for all TSM nodes with installed agent (approximately 2
seconds per node) just by one mouse click;
3) save report to csv file;
4) or convert report to HTML format to be saved, printed or sent by E-mail.
Client Information report contains:
- Node Name;
- Domain Name;
- Operating System type and version;
- TCP/IP Address;
- TCP/IP Name;
- TSM Client Version;
- Platform;
- Number of cores;
- Processor Type;
- Agent version.
Note, that TSMExplorer Agent for AIX supports logical partitioning
(Power4/Power5) and micro-partitioning (Power6/Power7?).
It means it gives entitled number of cores for logical partitions like 0.50,
1.70, 4.00, etc.
I can provide an example of report by direct E-mail, if somebody is interesting.
In addition, TSMExplorer Agent provides a possibility:
1) to view, edit and print TSM configuration files (TSM Client and TDP for
XXX), which are recognized automatically;
2) to view, analyze and print TSM logs (dsmerror.log, dsmsched.log,
dsmwebcl.log, etc, which are recognized automatically;
3) to view, analyze and print other logs (there is a possibility to add any
logs into agent configuration file manually;
4) to check status, start and stop TSM Services from TSMExplorer (remotely);
5) to install, upgrade, update TSM Client remotely from TSMExplorer by
special interface to dsmcutil (for those who is familiar with this utility).
In my opinion, TSMExplorer Agent makes TSMAdmins life much easier. It is
possible to perform must of the functions, related to TSM Client, remotely
(without access to the server).
Kindest regards,

Hi,
What we have done is develop a small tool that is not larger then a couple of
KB.
We do a TSM Schedule restore of that tool on all our machines. Windows, Linux,
SUN and AIX.
Execute this small program (similar to how we execute a TDP). That tool will
pull out all information about your CPUs and Cores and if you are running
physical or VMware/XEN or any other VM.
Send that information though TSM API and we can now write a select script on
our TSM Servers to pull out all Node/CPU/Cores/Hardware information to a nice
spreadsheet.
This operation takes us approx 8 hours to do. Doesn't matter the size of the
company and how many servers you have.
I will have our tool with me to Pulse to show some other TSM Users during Pulse.
Please catch me up or drop me an personal email if you want a demo after Pulse
via WebEX or GoToMeeting.
Best Regards

Only for Space managment.
But if you will be at pulse can I show you a easy way to report in all CPUs to
TSM Server so you can have a nice spreadsheet with all CPUs/Cores and PVUs
