As in my previous thread on the topic of switching out drives, this is
often problematic.

I had another drive replaced, recently (these new TS1130's are very
problematic. I have had 2-replaced already, since they were installed
4-months ago while none of my 3592/TS1120's have been replaced in over
2-years of use - yes I have the latest firmware on *ALL* drives yet some
drives are posting FID1 errors that say "microcode failure") and I had
them change the serial # to the same as the original.

Restarting the Library Manager TSM server did not work. I still had to
reboot the whole server (RH Linux) to be able to talk to the replacement
drive. IBMtapeutil could not access the replacement drive it until I
rebooted the server. Even tried restarting the lin_taped daemon.

It is undocumented, but when replacing fibre-connected LTO drives you
must halt and restart the TSM server in order for it to correctly sense
the new serial numbers. Nothing will work on the new replaced drive
until you bounce the server. A Sun/STK engineer told me about this one.
I know this is true in 5.5 - don't know about 6.1.
