Steve, no, these are not Java apps.

Of course, until there is a trace to see where the delay comes from, I
cannot say for sure... but one of the things that the backup-archive client
does, that the other components do not do, is initialize VSS and build the
VSS exclude list (files that VSS says to exclude from backup). And it is
there that my suspicion lies. If my guess is correct, then this is probably
a VSS issue, not TSM (per se).
