The Drive path was initially offline, so I issued the UPD PATH with the same
parameters as below, and got 'Unable to find path to match serial number for
drive PTL_DRIVE_1 in library <library>', so I ran the same command with
AUTODETECT=YES, and got the same result. Then deleted the path, issued the
define path and got the following:

I should add that the library is not aware of any problems - the operator's
panel indicates that all the drives are online and available.

There was one other user who experienced this in 2001, but never had an
answer.

Is this just a simple library reboot? Or something more ominous?
