We don't currently have any multi-core Intel systems in use (that we are
aware of), and our MS staff is unaware of any good way to find this out
-- but it looks like you can install linux on the box and get the info.
This is from a system that should cut over in a month or so:

Has anyone found a way to get the information for the "Number of
Processor Cores" and "Core Type" for your Windows servers?  We have a
few hundred servers, almost all HP DL3xx variety, but we haven't found
any automated way to get this information.

We're in the midst of a D&T audit of IBM licenses and believe me, it
makes me more than nuts at how many hours need to be put in just to
figure it out!!! I'm not even going to let someone else tell me how many
licenses I have in use when they can't even supply answers to basic
