The storage pool I have this setup on I have hi & lo mig set to 0 and
control when it migrates by the Migration Delay parameter so it only
migrates data after the specified number of days. I never tried playing with
hi & lo migration values as that was not priority so to answer your
question, I'm not sure. :)

Hi Mark,

I went out and looked at the definition for migration continue and if I
set it to no, then it will only migrate files if they have been residing
in the storage pool for 30 days and with no exceptions.

If I leave that parameter as "yes", then when the storage pool reaches 90%
it will migrate data to the next storage pool no matter if it has resided
in the storage pool for 30 days or not and will continue to migrate the
data until it has reaches it's low threshold (which I have at 50)?

I guess if I don't want to corner myself, then I could let migcontinue
stay as yes and increase the low threshold on this storage pool.

I appreciate you insight! Please let me know if I'm understanding this
parameter correctly. Thanks again!

Migration Continue
Select whether to allow the server to migrate files that do not satisfy
the migration delay time.
Because you can require that files remain in the storage pool for a
minimum number of days, the server may migrate all eligible files to the
next storage pool yet not meet the low migration threshold. Selecting yes
or no determines if the server is allowed to continue migrating files that
do not satisfy the migration delay time.

Yes
Specifies that when necessary to meet the low migration threshold, the
server continues to migrate files that do not satisfy the migration delay
time.
No
Specifies that the server stops migration when no eligible files remain to
be migrated, even before reaching the low migration threshold. The server
does not migrate files unless the files satisfy the migration delay time.

Note: This parameter is not available for storage pools using the
NETAPPDUMP, CELERRADUMP, or NDMPDUMP data format.

You have to set Migcontinue to No and it should work the way you want.

Subject: Storage Pool Parameter: Migration Delay question

Hi Everyone,

I would like to have 30 days of data retained within the cdlb_aix (onsite
cdl) storage pool before it gets migrated to the tape_aix pool (onsite
physical tape). I have defined the migration delay parameter to be 30 and
I just want to make sure that I understand what I have defined. Will the
data remain in cdlb_aix for 30 days unless the pool hits its 90% full
mark? And do I have to run a migration job to move the data from cdlb_aix
to tape_aix? Or will it automatically move to cdlb_aix after 30 days?
Thank you in advance!
