That makes sense since the first part of the restore process is to get the
filelist from the TSM server. So, if you are pulling down 500K entries or
1M entries, a lot of time will be spent in the first phase.

We saw this with our old mail server (cyrus). With over 15M objects, a
regular (not no-query) restore would often take hours to get the list of
what to pick from to restore. We usually did very specific backups, not
GUI.

I would highly recommend dividing into multiple TSM nodes.

We are doing that with our big-honking Netware server. There are over
20-departments. Each will have their own volume with their own TSM node.
This is for both security/administration but also load.

Well see now you guys got me thinking...

Here's my issue. I have two large F&P servers that pretty much contain all
of our department files. We have multiple department drives I would like
to
somehow segregate. The reason is that our file restores have gotten
REALLLLLLLY slow, meaning the GUI navigation. If I need to do a file
restore
and search using the GUI, clicking on another folder and waiting for the
results for Active & Inactive files takes sometimes up to 20mins to
respond.
It's getting ridiculous.

Have you come across this issue? I can only presume it's because we have
way
too many files getting backed up on a single node name. Advice?

I was thinking of trying to get each Dept drive backed up separately,
which
would require new node names etc. That's fine but my issue is getting this
setup without have to re-backup the directories (recreating the
filespaces),
or losing retention on the directories. I was trying to find out how to
move
filespace nodedata. Like moving the D:\ filespace from NodeA to NodeB. I
don't see instructions anywhere for this. I only see instructions for
moving
from one storagepool to another.

Thanks in advance!!
