I think of it less of a question of OS, more of a question of hardware. It is
very hard to find an x86 server that has the bus structure to handle the 11
HBA's I am using.
The first concern for me is what does the hardware need to handle? After that,
I was down to non-x86 hardware. If your expertise is in Windows and the
hardware will handle your load then you could easily argue for Windows. If
running Windows means double the servers, then it gets a little shaky for
Windows.
AIX is certainly more stable than Windows, but TSM is not as stable as AIX. We
seem to only make about 6 months before restarting TSM.
Determine your requirements and see where it leads.
That is my thoughts on the subject. I have not found a way to guarantee them,
so use at your own risk.

I believe it depends on the size of your environment. For example what I
have seen instances with roughly up to 20GB DB runs fine on Windows.
After that AIX or the dinosaur.
