Re: Novell DB files skipped from Tivoli Incremental backups

Mark thanks...Yes, Thats what we on the TSM side are concerned about.
However the Novell
admin thinks we should try this set up anyway. The novell admin
believes that this is due to
a upgrade to Groupwise 7 recently which is probably the case since this
probably just started
to occur.

Thanks to all who responded, Hi Kevin I have been mailing the Novell
Admin back and forth and
he seems adamant that he would only ask his management to bring the
email system down for backup if
they had no other option they are a "24x7 shop". He wants to go with to
creating a new management class within
the policy domain that the NetWare server residesin that mgmt class
would use DYNAMIC (or SHRDYNAMIC)
as its copy serialization. If possible you can still email me the
details of your presched and postsched setup.
I have never done that and it might be useful if not now in the future.
Thanks

Tim,
I am using presched and postshced to do this very thing on several servers. I
am in a class right now, but will email you the details on Friday. Basically, I
set up a separate node for the GW backups, then use a pre and post sched to
stop and start GW. I do this around 2:00 am (for minimal disruption). So far,
works like a charm.
Also, the enableGW switch does not work reliably. I worked with that for a
month before giving up - including calls open with both TSM and GW support.

Mark... Thanks again I am also going to look into the preschedulecmd and
postschedcmd
and see if it's possible to shut down the database while the backup is
active.

Hi Mark...Thanks If I changed the Dynamic option in the backup copygroup in
that management class that would effect ALL backups correct? Is there a way to
just make
these 3 particular Novell servers do dynamic backup?
You would need to create a management class within the policy domain that the
NetWare server resides in; that mgmt class would use DYNAMIC (or SHRDYNAMIC) as
its copy serialization. (Don't forget to validate and activate the modified
policyset.)
You would then need to use INCLUDE statements in the client option file to
point the new mgmt class at the GroupWise files. Something like:
include GW:/.../*.db NEWMGMTCLASS
