In general, the first thing I would ask before recommending ANY new
feature is, do you NEED the feature? Adding a new feature to a system
means one more level of complexity, and thus one more area for things to
go wrong. As a wise person once said, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

So... in the spirit of the foregoing, do you NEED journal-based backup? In
other words:

- Do your backups currently complete in an unacceptable time frame? and...

- Is most of that time spent in scanning the file system(s), but not
actually backing anything up? (The scan time for 400,000 files would not
normally seem prohibitive to me.)

If the answer to either or both questions for a given machine is "no",
then I would not recommend implementing journal-based backup on that
machine.

My two cents.
