Also from the AIX Platform:
#lscfg -vpl smcX
#lscfg -vpl rmtX
To get firmware versions of library and tape drives.
Howvere, if AIX has not been rebooted since firmware was updated,
the old versions will show with these commands.
To get updated versions, delete device at AIX level and run cfgmgr.
Of course, make sure TSM tape operations are not active when you do this!

Aside from walking up to the display (the version is the four-digits on
one corner of the screen), from linux you can
mtx -f /dev/sg3 inquiry
Product Type: Medium Changer
Vendor ID: 'IBM '
Product ID: '03584L32 '
Revision: '5770'
Attached Changer: No
mtx -f /dev/sg4 inquiry
Product Type: Tape Drive
Vendor ID: 'IBM '
Product ID: 'ULT3580-TD2 '
Revision: '5AT0'
Attached Changer: No
The Linux version of IBMtapeutil also has an "inquiry" command that shows
the version of the changer:
Vendor ID-----------------------------IBM
Product ID----------------------------03584L32
Product Revision Level----------------5770
and the drives:
Vendor ID-----------------------------IBM
Product ID----------------------------ULT3580-TD2
Product Revision Level----------------5AT0
