You're depriving us of the context of how you arrived at that state,
platform, library type, etc...

That message most commonly results where a volume was manually
removed from a library without Checkout, and then someone is trying
to put the volume back into the library. TSM knows that it has data
on the tape, and naturally does everything it can to keep you from
trashing it.

Re-evaluate how you effected that installation and go from there. If
you took over a pre-existing library in a TSM database restoral, then
TSM thereby knows of the state of the volumes. Be methodical. Query
the volumes to ascertain their current TSM state, and then process
accordingly. It superficially sounds like you want to check in non-
checked-in, data-laden volumes as Private and then perform
reclamation as usual.

Hi,

I'm trying to checkin volumes in a new 5.3.2 installation but keep
on getting "currently defined in storage pool or volume history
file" - ANR8816E
Tried to label them with overwrite-option with no joy
I can checkin the volumes as state=private but not scratch.
Dont want to delete whole Volhist file as I have backups running.

It might be worth knowing that these volumes was used by previous
backup software.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as Im running low on volumes
