I have noticed that (at least in recent versions of TSM) del dbvol is
quite a safe command. The volume won't be actually deleted if it
contains any data....

I actually found an excuse for doing a unload/load operation (and you
all know I think defragging a db is completely useless). The only case I
can think of is when you permanently delete huge amounts of file from a
db and in the end will want to be able to reduce the db. In my case,
I'll be removing about 400 million backup files from a db, but will be
keeping that db as my configuration master (and only that). After I've
removed all node data from th db, I'll do a unload/load so I can reduce
the db... (by abut 200 GB).
