Hi Allen...

Good recommendations, but there are some issues with your suggestions...

Using the MOVE DATA command actually moves the data -- moving it back
to optical means burning another WORM platter... Again, I don't have
the time nor the budget to be re-burning 2000 platters, and as I
mentioned before, I don't have the spare disk capacity to let this
data live on disk until this migration process is complete.

As for storagepool backups... There are redundant sites storing the
data, so there are no storagepool backups on site. And personally,
I've found 3995 to be quite reliable when used as intended... That
is, occasionally. =) (I've also been to sites where some platters
have several thousand mount counts. That's just silly -- data that
gets used that often should be on disk!)

Anyway... I'm still looking for the answer to the question I
originally asked... How exactly do I determine which side of a
platter a particular piece of data is on? It sounds like I'll be
making a phonecall to TSM support and pushing this one all the way up
the ladder to the developers. =)
