We back up our Netapps with incremental forever (in addition to NDMP for
desaster recovery soon). We split our backups, but still have ~13 m Files
per share.
For performance:
check your TSM Client for physical memory (512mb is way too low, spend
$$$$/€€€€ on Netapps and cents for backups...)
check if mandatory virus scan is active during backup (huge effect)
if mandatory scan is active, does it run on the same machine?
for using externel virus scan: use multiple scanners in round-robin for
performance (gives you at least a little performance boost)
try not to use memoryefficient backup
We run TSM Client on a W2K DL360 with 2GB ram, 3 TSM clients with a typical
throughput:
