Hi,

Maybe this will help:
-In AIX, rfc1323 must be set on to have window sizes larger than 64K-1;
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/tividd/td/TSMM/SC32-9101-01/en_US/HTML/SC3
2-9101-01.htm

BTW, I almost did the same thing.

Regards,

Karel

So I'm temporarily using our TSM LPAR with our Windows TSM server as a
NODE TYPE of server. There are several reasons for this but the plan is
to eventually move everything over to the TSM LPAR and move the tape
library over to the AIX box.

I got TSM installed and after a few issues with Atape drivers and the
small but important firmware difference between a 3581 for pSeries vs. a
3623 for xSeries (another rant for another day), I have a working tape
autoloader on the pSeries. TSM is running fine and I'm using virtual
volumes on the pSeries from the xSeries.

HOWEVER, network speed was TERRIBLE despite the fact that both servers
are FEC-enabled gigabit ports on a gigabit switch. When I say terrible,
I mean on the order of 3GB between diskpools over 8 hours.

The WIN32 box is not a powerful machine but I can move files from laptop
to it faster than that.

I check various settings on each host and then finally realize that I
was still using a default dsmserv.opt that I copied from dsmserv.opt.smp
on the pSeries side. Notwithstanding the fact that the defaults really
suck, my TCPWindowsize was a whopping 0! I created a sensible
dsmserv.opt and restart TSM and things are MUCH better.

So remember kids, NEVER USE DEFAULT SETTINGS!

Thanks for letting me rant again.
