Mark,

How many objects are examined daily during expiration processing?

We have a 112gb database that is 83% utilized and it only takes 30
minutes
to complete an expire inventory. Either I have a real fast server or you
have a real slow one!

Hi Rick

Our unload/reload what about 10 weeks ago and halved our database from
100Gb
for 50Gb... the database has grown by 20% since but expire inventory is
still much quicker than it was prior to the unload/reload, it is however
taking longer than immediately after the process...
definitely a worthwhile exercise.

Before 21 hours
Immediately after unload/reload 6 hours
Now 10 hours

It examines 21million objects..

Chris

Did you notice a performance improvement after the reorg. If you did,
is it
still performing better since it has grown?

Thanks

Rick

It is different from DBBackup - there are specific load/unload abilities
in
TSM. The process results in the DB being re-orged. We recently went
through
the process and approximatley halved the size of our 120GB DB, the gain
is
fairly short lived though. The re-org was around 8 weeks ago and the DB
is
back up to 80% of its original size.

30 GB is not outrageously large. I've worked with one that was almost
twice
that size. You can unload and load the database or perhaps do an audit
on
it. There's an entire section called utilities in the Admin Reference.
Be
forewarned that an audit could take days if not weeks...!!!
