We walk this way.

Backup Storage Pools (Criticals)
Backup TSM Db
Backup Storage Pools (non-Criticals)
Expiration
Move drmedia
Run Drm Prepare
DR preparation and mksysb on TSM server to tape
Take tapes to Data Vault.
Reclamation 65 % M-f & 51% during weekend.
Migrate diskpools to tape

Because when the Backup Storage pools backs up, it also backs up the
diskpool. Save data on diskpools till end of day for quick restore
turn-a-round, then I migrate to tape (I call it move data to tape). Plus
migrating also creates delays and tape media waits, if run beginning of
day. Not sure on the volhist.

Oracle 'backups' (archives) go directly to tape; when the primary R3
instance backup finishes, it triggers a backup storagepool to copy the
data to the backup pool

For all other pools, starting about 12:30 AM --
 Migrate disk to tape
Backup tape storage pool to copy

When the last storage pool backup is finished --
 Full TSM database backup
Copy device config to off-site media (currently, floppy)
Copy volhist to off-site media (currently, floppy)

Check out all volumes going off-site (tsm database, all copy pool
volumes with data on them) (we don't use DRM -- back when we started, it
cost too much; now that it's "free", we've already got our processes
working well enough we don't need the additional complications)

All the copy routines are scripted and automated

Oh Wise Ones,

What order do you run the following processes in each day?

Backup Storage Pools
Backup TSM Db
Backup Volhist
Migrate diskpools to tape
Move drmedia
Run Drm Prepare

I am asking because when we do our DR tests It always seems that I end
up having to restore to a point in time 1 day earlier than I think I
should. I am preparing to rework the daily schedule to try to avoid this
and wanted to know how everyone else does it.

Thanks in advance,
cory
