I run 3494's, have never seen it come up with 7 digits on its own - it
shouldn't.
Like Richard, I haven't tried to recreate it!

We don't know your tape type, but being a 3494 library, I believe that
all your volsers should be 6 chars. I have seen TSM nevertheless end up
with volsers having 7 digits - where the fumbling fingers of the
administrator so typed such a volser into a TSM command. (I can't
remember which command; and as you may appreciate, I am loathe to try
to reproduce that situation. :-)  Look back in your Activity Log
history to see what action introduced this anomaly.
